Vibrant Matter

This exhibition of works by Álvaro Oyarzún and Christian Vinck takes its title from Jane Bennett’s 2009 book Vibrant Matter: A Political Ecology of Things. In this seminal book, Bennett critiques the human-centric way in which we tend to understand ecology—as a straightforward binary opposition between living beings and inanimate objects—and argues that we need to re-think the idea of agency to include non-living objects, to understand that we are actors (among many others) in a system that is far more complex than we can understand through reason alone.
