Luna Bengoechea, Salinas Project

Bengoechea’s project and her intervention in the man-made landscape of the Canary Islands should be considered as a reflection on craft production, sustainability and the environment in a historical context. Salt extraction processes in Spain date back to before the Roman Empire, and it was at this time that this product acquired its strategic value as a precious commodity and generator of wealth. In fact, the word ‘salary’, as remuneration in exchange for time and work performed, is derived from the word ‘salt’.
